WACO, Texas -- The No. 17 TCU women's tennis team's run at the 2015 Big 12 Tennis Championships ended in the semifinals, as the Horned Frogs dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 8 Baylor on Saturday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.
The Horned Frogs (18-8, 7-2) were unable to get any momentum going against the Bears (24-6, 8-1), who picked up the doubles point, before taking three singles matches in straight sets to get the victory.
"That is not the way we wanted to finish the tournament, but Baylor is a good team and I give them a lot of credit," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "We are just not matching up well with them at positions four through six and it happened the last time we were here during the regular season. That is the worst the bottom of our lineup has gotten beat all year long.
"Overall, this was a great tournament and a great season. I just told the team how proud I am of them for getting to this point. We are in a situation where we could be hosting the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament and that is a great position to be in for us."
In doubles action, Baylor was able to use early break at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the lead. The Bears were able to open with a 6-1 win on court two, while their pair on court three finished off the doubles point with a 6-3 win of their own.
The lead grew to 2-0 for Baylor after Seda Arantekin dropped her match on court six to Kelley Anderson, 6-1, 6-2. Blair Shankle made it 3-0 for Baylor after taking down Sofiko Kadzhaya, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.
Alexis Pereira fought off numerous match points on court five, but Theresa Van Zyl clinched the match for Baylor with a 6-4, 6-4 win.
TCU will now await their selection into the NCAA Championship, which will be announced on Tuesday, April 28 at 5 p.m.
