FORT WORTH - TCU scored a run in the fourth inning and held on for the 1-0 victory over Santa Clara in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. Preston Morrison notched his eighth win of the season, while Riley Ferrell tallied his 10th save of the season.

Morrison (8-1) turned in his second consecutive quality start. He allowed just four hits in six innings and struck out six. No runner advanced past second base in the game. Three times in the contest, Morrison retired the side in order. He never faced more than four batters in an inning.

Trey Teakell came on in a dicey situation in the seventh with two on and nobody out. He struck out the side to hold the slim 1-0 lead. Ferrell made it interesting with a pair of walks to open the ninth, but a popped up bunt followed by a pair of swinging strikeouts locked up the victory for the Horned Frogs.

The Frogs pushed across the lone run of the game in the fourth. Three straight one-out singles produced the winning run. Connor Wanhanen started the rally, smoking a line drive back up the middle. Evan Skoug roped a base hit into right field to put runners on the corners. A Dane Steinhagen bouncer through the left side scored Wanhanen for a 1-0 lead.

Santa Clara collected a one-out hit in each of the second and third innings but Morrison retired the next two to end the frame. A lead-off single was wasted in the sixth as Morrison once again retired the next three batters he faced to end the frame.

The Broncos first legitimate scoring threat came in the seventh after a lead-off double and hit batter put two on with nobody out. Teakell took over and got the first batter to strikeout on a bunt attempt. The next batter swung through an offering for the second out and Teakell froze the final batter to end the threat.

In the ninth, Ferrell issued a pair of walks to move the tying run to second with nobody out. Again, a failed bunt attempt gifted TCU the first out of the inning. Ferrell fanned two pinch hitters to end the game.

TCU improves to 28-8 on the season.
