TCU Defeats North Texas, 4-0

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The No. 17 TCU women's tennis team shutout its sixth opponent this season and second straight with a 4-0 victory over North Texas on Wednesday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton, Texas.
The Horned Frogs (13-7) had to stage a comeback to capture the doubles point against the Mean Green (6-11) before dominating in straight sets on three courts in singles action to take the match.
"North Texas was leading in the doubles matches and our girls came back to steal back the point and that was encouraging to see," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "I have known Sujay (Lama) for a long time and he always gets the best out of his players. They are a deceiving team because they have lost six or seven at 4-3, but are still a really good program
"In singles we played really well. Seda (Arantekin), Alexis (Pereira) and Stefanie (Tan) finished up their matches and closed them out in the right way. It was a good day for the Frogs and we are going to bust it out the next two days, practice hard and then we are going to take the Easter weekend off and get healthy and recover."
After dropping the doubles match on court two, TCU faced an uphill battle in the other doubles matches, as Tan and Simona Parajova were trailing 4-1 on court one and Pereira and Palina Dubavets were down 5-3 on court three. The senior duo at No. 1 doubles won five straight games to get the first victory for the Frogs, while the freshman pair finished off their match with a 7-5 victory at the No. 3 position.
TCU continued to roll in singles action with Arantekin and Pereira notching the first two singles wins of the match. The duo, playing at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, each blanked their opponents in the first sets, 6-0, before taking the victories in the second frames to put the Frogs up 3-0 in the match. Arantekin now has 17 wins on the season, while Pereira is just shy of the 20-win mark with 19 overall.
No. 108 Tan gave TCU its second straight shutout and clinched the match by defeating Kseniya Bardabush, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 1 position for the senior's 11th win this season and fifth straight.
The Frogs will take the weekend off before returning to action next week with its final nonconference match of the season against UT Arlington on April 8 at 5:30 p.m., at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
