The Frogs twice rallied in the late innings to force extras, but a two-out home run from the Cowboys' Dustin Williams proved to be the difference in the game.
Oklahoma State scored five unanswered runs to take a 5-2 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh. The big inning came in the sixth as the Cowboys scored a trio of unearned runs. A lead-off walk followed by a throwing error tied the game at two. Three straight two-out hits extended the Cowboys lead to two, 4-2. Gage Green hit a solo home run to center in the seventh to push the lead to three, 5-2.
TCU took advantage of a lead-off error in the seventh and rallied to tie the game at five. With two outs, Cody Jones launched his first home run of the season over the right field fence to pull the Frogs within one, 5-4. Connor Wanhanen followed with a base hit and stole second. A wild pitch had him standing on third and he scored easily on a Derek Odell base hit up the middle to tie the game at five.
The tie was short lived as the Cowboys used a lead-off single to regain the lead, 6-5. A passed ball moved the runner into scoring position. Jacob Chappell hit a bouncer up the middle with two outs that took a bad hop off the second base bag into left field, allowing the go-ahead run to score.
TCU once again fought back to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth. Jeremie Fagnan lined a single into left to open the inning. With one out, Fagnan was standing on second. Cody Jones came through again with a triple to left center that knotted the game at six. The Cowboys went to the bullpen and called on Garrett Williams who retired the next two batters he faced to push the game to extra innings.
The Frogs had base runners in all three extra frames, but couldn't come up with the base hit to score the run. Riley Ferrell (0-1) came on in the 10th and struck out four of the first five batters he faced before yielding the eventual game-winning home run to Williams.
TCU had taken a 2-0 lead in the first inning after loading the bases with nobody out on a walk and two hits. Evan Skoug grounded out to give the Frogs a 1-0 lead. Garrett Crain followed with a sacrifice fly.
Oklahoma State cut the Frog lead in half in the top of the second on a solo home run from Conor Costello. The middle frames were quiet, setting up the late-inning heroics from both teams.
Mitchell Traver started for the Frogs. He went five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits and four walks. Traver struck out three in the no-decision. Trey Teakell yielded an unearned run on three hits in his lone inning of work. Brian Trieglaff was touched for two runs (one earned) on three hits in one inning of work. Ryan Burnett did yeoman's work in the later innings, giving up just one hit and striking out four in three innings of work.
With the loss, TCU falls to 16-3 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 play. The Frogs and the Cowboys will square off in game two Saturday night at 6:30.
