Improving to 5-0 on the season, Morrison allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits. He walked three, hit a pair of batters and fanned nine. Travis Evans retired the only batter he faced in the eighth. Trey Teakell pitched a perfect ninth to lock up his first save of the season.
The Cowboys struck first as they took advantage of a lead-off walk in the first inning. A two-out base hit from Conor Costello put Oklahoma State up 1-0.
TCU wasted no time taking the lead as it struck for two runs on three hits in the bottom of the frame. Cody Jones reached on an infield single and stole second. Connor Wanhanen followed with a base hit to tie the game at one. Derek Odell put the Frogs in front to stay with a double down the left field line.
Two Cowboy errors in the second proved costly as TCU stretched its lead to 3-1. Nolan Brown reached on an errant throw and was standing on third with nobody out after a stolen base and another throwing error. Dane Steinhagen grounded out to drive in the lone run of the frame.
After stranding five runners in the first four innings, the Cowboys finally cut into the TCU lead. Garrett McCain led off with a base hit and moved to second on a passed ball. A sacrifice fly from Costello made it a one-run game, 3-2.
TCU answered in the bottom of the fifth as it took advantage of a lead-off walk. Oklahoma State failed to turn an inning-ending double play and the errant throw allowed Odell to move to second. Evan Skoug bounced a single up the middle to make it 4-2.
With one out in the sixth, the Frogs loaded the bases on two walks and a base hit. Wanhanen worked a two-out walk to drive in his second run of the night for a 5-2 lead.
The Frogs broke the game open in the seventh with two more runs to make it 7-2. Skoug led off the inning with a base hit and moved to third on a Garrett Crain double. Keaton Jones blooped a double into left to drive in both runners.
Oklahoma State tried to mount a late rally as Dustin Williams hit a two-run home run with one out in the eighth, but it was too little too late as the combination of Morrison, Evans and Teakell retired the final five batters in the game to lock up the victory.
With the win, TCU improves to 17-3 overall and 4-1 in Big 12 play. The rubber match of the three game series is slated for Sunday afternoon. The game will be televised nationally on FOX Sports 1 with first pitch set for 2 p.m. Alex Young will get the start for the Frogs.
