Preston Morrison (4-0) got off to a rocky start as he faced seven batters in the first inning. The Bears pushed across two runs in the frame, but that was all Morrison would allow. He retired 17 of the final 20 batters he faced before giving way to Trey Teakell. The duo of Teakell and Riley Ferrell retired all five batters they faced. Ferrell struck out the side in the ninth to earn his seventh save of the season.
Morrison turned in his fourth quality start of the season. He allowed two runs on five hits, walked one and fanned a season-high nine batters.
A hit batter to open the game got things rolling for Baylor. Following the hit batter, Darryn Sheppard lined a double into left field to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Cameron Miller looped a single just over second base to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. A two-out base hit from Jonathan Ducoff pushed the Bears lead to two.
Baylor starter Daniel Castano did a good job of holding the Frogs in check, limiting TCU to just three base runners through five innings, but the Frog bats came to life in the sixth. TCU scored twice on four hits to tie the game at two.
Cody Jones ripped a lead-off double down the left field line in the sixth. After a Keaton Jones sacrifice, Garrett Crain got the Frogs on the board with a single through the left side. With runners on the corners and one out, Dane Steinhagen tied the game with a looping single into right.
Another lead-off single, this time off the bat of Nolan Brown, proved costly to the Bears as it turned into the go-ahead run. Cody Jones and Keaton Jones drew one-out walks to load the bases. Baylor looked poised to get out of the inning on a ground ball off the bat of Evan Skoug, but catcher's interference was called, allowing Brown to score the go-ahead run.
Teakell took over with a runner on and one out in the eighth. He retired the next two batters to strand the tying run at first. Three straight punchouts for Ferrell in the ninth looked up TCU's fifth straight victory.
TCU improves to 13-2 on the season and 2-0 in Big 12 play. The series finale is set for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Alex Young will make the start TCU and face Baylor's Austin Stone. The game will be televised on FSSW.
