FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 27 TCU women's tennis team opened Big 12 conference action with a commanding 4-0 victory over Kansas State on Friday in Manhattan, Kan., at the Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.
The Horned Frogs (8-5, 1-0) quickly grabbed two wins in doubles action against the Wildcats (6-8, 0-1), before taking three singles matches in straight sets to notch the dominating victory.
"It was nice to play outdoors for the first time in a while," coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "It always takes some getting used to adjusting from indoors to outdoors and I think overall, the team did that well.
"I'm really proud of Seda (Arantekin) this week. She's been through a lot off the court, but has turned what could have been a negative and discouraging time into a real positive and uplifting time for her and our team. We have a few girls starting to gain some real confidence. If we can focus and be sharp Sunday, it will set us up well for a great transition into the meat of our Big 12 schedule."
Simona Parajova and Sofiko Kadzhaya opened doubles action by quickly winning 6-1 on court three over Marai Panaite and Tegan Louw for their fourth straight victory this season and seventh overall. Since switching to the third court, the duo has been undefeated and is now 4-0 on the season.
No. 38 Stefanie Tan and Arantekin would finish off the doubles point for the Frogs, as the pair was able to take down Carolina Costamagna and Palma Juhasz, 6-3, for their 12th win this season and fifth in a row.
The winning did not stop in doubles, as Alexis Pereira opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Louw for her 14th win this season. Arantekin followed suit and defeated Panaite, 6-1, 6-2, for her 13th win this season and third straight.
No. 101 Tan would round out the team win for TCU, as the senior notched her ninth victory this season and third straight with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Costamagna.
TCU will continue its opening weekend of Big 12 action by traveling to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the No. 70 Kansas Jayhawks on Sunday, March 15 at Noon.
