Women's Tennis Falls to No. 7 Alabama

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 20 TCU women's tennis team dropped its first match of the season with a 6-1 loss to No. 7 Alabama on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, Ala., inside the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
The Horned Frogs (3-1) got a big win on the singles side against the Crimson Tide (3-0), with senior Simona Parajova defeating her second straight ranked opponent. Parajova dropped the first set against No. 56 Danielle Spielmann, but bounced back to take the next two sets, 6-4, 6-1 to snag the victory.
TCU was in a tight battle with Alabama for the doubles point to start the match, with the Crimson Tide taking the victory on court one, before Palina Dubavets and Alexis Pereira struck back to defeat Luicelena Perez and Natalia Maynetto, 6-4, at No. 3 doubles to even up the fight. The freshmen duo now has a team-leading 11 victories in doubles action.
The Frogs could not complete the battle for the point, as Alabama won at No. 2 doubles to take the early 1-0 lead in the match.
The Crimson Tide were able to take the wins on courts three, four, six and five to wrap up the match and take the team victory before Parajova collected her win at No. 2 singles. Parajova now has a team-leading 11 singles wins on the season and continues to be undefeated on court two.
Fellow senior Stefanie Tan was the final match in-play and fought hard against No. 25 Eric Routliffe. Tan dropped the first set, before bouncing back to take the second set, 7-5. The Singapore native could not complete the comeback and dropped the final set, 6-4, and the match.
TCU will hit the road again and will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to take part in the 2015 ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 6-9 at the Boar's Head Tennis Club. This will be the first time the team will participate in the national event since 2007.
