FORT WORTH, Texas - Seniors Stefanie Tan and Simona Parajova earned a spot in the ITA preseason singles rankings for the second straight season as announced on Monday.
Tan, a 2013 All-American and two-time All-Big 12 Singles player, earned the team's highest individual ranking at No. 30. Parajova, a two-time Big 12 singles champion, earned a No. 88 ranking in the singles poll.
"Stefanie and Simona are two of the best players in the country and it is no surprise they are in the preseason national rankings," coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "I am looking forward to helping them be their best.
"After getting to know these two seniors the last two weeks, what is really great abut them is their work ethic and desire for our team to be a family and reach our maximum potential collectively. I am excited to watch Stefanie and Simona lead our team to being the best we can be."
Tan led the team a year ago with 31 wins in singles action, which is tied for eighth all-time in program history in a single season. The Singapore native was ranked as high as No. 30 and earned 11 victories over ranked opponents. Tan earned a spot in the qualifying draw of singles at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships that will take place on Sept. 27-Oct. 5 in Los Angeles, Calif. Tan will also compete in the qualifying doubles draw with sophomore Seda Arantekin.
Parajova is the reigning Big 12 No. 2 singles champion, after claiming the No. 3 crown in 2013. The Slovakia native finished second on the team with an overall record of 23-6 all at No. 2 singles and lost only two dual matches. Parajova had a win streak of over 11 and brought down five ranked opponents. Parajova earned a bid in the pre-qualifying draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
