FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU men's golf head coach Bill Montigel announced the 2014-15 schedule on Thursday, which features three PGA Tour major championship sites as well as a home tournament played at Colonial Country Club.
Montigel, who enters his 28th season at the helm of the Horned Frogs while leading the program to 25-straight NCAA Regional appearances, has lined up a schedule featuring several of the nation's top tournaments.
TCU opens the 2014-15 campaign with the Carmel Cup on Aug. 29-31 at the prestigious Pebble Beach Golf Links in Monterey, Calif., which has been the host of five U.S. Open Championships as well as being rated "America's No. 1 Public Golf Course." The Frogs return to the Carmel Cup after sweeping the team and individual titles to open the 2012-13 season, as Julien Brun fired a 10-under 206 to claim the fourth of his nine career crowns.
The Frogs travel to Albuquerque, N.M., on Sept. 26-27 to compete in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate for the second-straight season before returning home to host Nike's Swoosh Invitational on Oct. 6-7 at Colonial Golf Course.
TCU closes the fall portion of its schedule on Oct. 27-28 with the Quail Valley Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla.
The Frogs will play a familiar spring slate, having competed in six of the seven tournaments last season, and open on Feb. 5-7 with their annual trip to Hawaii for the Amer Ari Invitational.
TCU travels to Palm Desert, Calif., for the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Feb. 20-22, where Brun is the two-time defending champion, going a combined 23-under par the last two seasons.
The following weekend, the Frogs will make their third-straight appearance at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz., before returning to the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas, Nev., on March 9-11, which is regarded as one of the top regular-season tournaments in collegiate golf.
The Frogs return to California to compete at The Goodwin on March 26-28 at Stanford, where Paul Barjon claimed the title as a freshman in 2013 with an 11-under 199, marking the lowest 54-hole total by a TCU golfer since at least 1994.
TCU wraps up the regular season on April 6-7 at the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Course, which is the site of the 2015 U.S. Open. Located on the shores of the Puget Sound, Chambers Bay Golf Course will bring the first-ever U.S. Open to the Pacific Northwest.
The Frogs begin the championship portion of their schedule on April 27-29 at the 2015 Big 12 Championship at Southern Hills Golf Club in Tulsa, Okla., which has hosted four PGA Championships. Brun became the sixth Frog in program history to claim an individual conference title last season when he earned the Big 12 title by the third-largest margin of victory in league history (nine strokes).
The NCAA Regional Championships will follow on May 14-16 at one of six campus sites, while the 2015 NCAA Championship will be held at The Concession Golf Club in Tampa, Fla.
