Opening statement:
"For the first 15 minutes, it was like we were in practice all week. We weren't very good and were lethargic. With about five minutes to go in the first half, I thought we played with a good purpose, shared the ball, and got a lot of guys an opportunity to play."
It was a good day. We had four guys in our basketball program graduate in Amric Fields, Trey Zeigler, Thomas Montigel and Josh Priola. I told them it was a lot more important than winning games to get a degree from an institution like ours.
For the most part, we played well tonight. UTSA had me worried because of their skill and level of success on the road. Their coach does a good job and puts them in a good position offensively with mis-matches. We found a way to play through some issues tonight and it's nice to win, but the most important thing today was those four guys getting degrees and walking."
On Brandon Parrish's performance tonight:
"As much as they went to the rim with their guards being 6'1 and 6'2, I thought this was as good of game as he has played defensively. He took on that challenge. He is a notoriously slow starter sometimes when the ball isn't going down, but this was the first time in a long time he let his defense get him going."
On fifth-year senior Amric Fields and his career-long role:
"His role on the team is huge, and he's a guy who I feel every time I turn around something bad has happened. He's stayed the course and we don't need to be writing off his career right now because his career is not over. He has a lot of good basketball left to be played."
