Head Coach Trent Johnson
Opening statement…
"I told the kids afterward that the second half got ugly and that was on me. I played too many combinations of guys that hadn't been playing together. I thought we had a great start in terms of energy defensively and on offense we had some good shots. We had a good opportunity to play a lot of guys and that is always a way to improve."
On the team's overall play...
"We were really methodical. Chauncey [Collins] had two fouls, Kyan [Anderson] had two fouls and Mike Williams stepped up off the bench. We are getting contributions from a lot of guys. I would like to have had Kaviar [Shepherd's] minutes down a little bit. Brandon [Parrish] played 30 minutes, which is okay and he shot the ball well. New Orleans' post players played on the perimeter, so we had to be quick."
On offensive contributions…
"I try not to get caught up in that and I say this, it's all about the competition, who you play, where you play and when you play. We are going to be able to score the ball against certain people. The key is how do you react when you are playing against somebody really good and it gets tough. I know how Kyan reacts, I saw him in Big 12 play and his statistics improved. I know how Kaviar reacts and his statistics have improved. Brandon had 22 points tonight. He should be making those open shots. I'm more concerned with the last couple games in how we've done a good job of sharing the ball and passing the ball. That's what I tend to emphasize on."
Guard Brandon ParrishOn the overall gameplay and inside presence…
"Sometimes it can be tough to generate offense because the game just slows down and stagnates. I like how we used our inside presence with Kaviar Shepherd and Chris Washburn. We let the game come to us tonight rather than us individually trying to go get it. We played through our system, which showed we are just as good as anybody."
On being 3-0 with great starts to each game…
"3-0 means a lot. I like the margin of victory that we have had in each game. Our first half push that we have made each game has been great. From the jump, we have gone out, played our game and it has shown. "
On the improvement of defense this season…
"I think when we let our defense generate our whole game we are a lot better team. I like how coach Johnson has made that a huge focus on us this year. I don't think we were the same defensive team last year that we are this year as far as playing hard on the ball, rebounding and getting out in transition."
On the team this year…
"I love this team we have. I love all of the pieces that we have and all the offense that we can bring in to give teams a different look each game."
