FORT WORTH - The TCU Rifle team will look to build off its recent winning streak when it travels to Columbus, Ohio, for its fall finale at Ohio State on Sunday.
The Horned Frogs entered the season with five freshmen and two seniors, but hasn't let the youth slow them down. They picked up consecutive wins over Nevada and Jacksonville State in a home triangular match on Nov. 2 and a road win at UTEP on Sunday.
The win over the Miners saw five air rifle shooters hit 588 or better. Mindy Miles reached the 593 mark for the third time in six collegiate matches, while Katie Bridges, Ariana Grabowski and Sally Li all shot 589s, with the first two establishing personal-bests. Grabowski improved her score for the fourth consecutive match as well.
Miles overtook the team lead in air rifle average at 591, while Li and Hannah Black are right behind, each with season averages of 590. Li owns the top spot in smallbore with a 581 average, while Black follows at 580. Grabowski is third (577). Li (1,170) has the one-point advantage over Black in aggregate score.
The Horned Frogs have had good memories lately in Columbus. The squad finished third at the inaugural Patriot Rifle Conference Championships there in February, with Sally Li and Katie Bridges setting personal-highs in air rifle and aggregate scores.
TCU's last head-to-head meeting with the Buckeyes came back on Nov. 10, 2012 with the team posting a then-school-record 4,708 score and 2,348 smallbore.
Ohio State split its squad its last time out. The Scarlet team fell to Nebraska while the Grey team defeated Rose Hulman on Nov. 2.
Deanna Bindie has been the Buckeyes' top smallbore performer with a 578 average on the season. Remington Lyman and Drew Cheezum each pace the squad in air rifle at 582 on the season.
The spring season begins Jan. 17 when Air Force and Coast Guard come to Fort Worth for a triangular match.
