No. 5 TCU Crushes No. 2 K-State, 13-5

With the win, the Horned Frogs improved to 4-1 overall, including 2-1 in Big 12 action. The Frogs, who outscored the Wildcats, 1,479-1,383, handed K-State its first loss of the season, while improving its home record at Turning Point Ranch to 12-3 overall since 2012. In all, the Purple and White haven't lost at home to a conference foe since an 11-8 setback to Oklahoma State on Feb. 24, 2013.
Simply put, TCU cruised to a 7-2 victory in Hunt Seat action Friday. Junior Nicole Diamantis carried the load for the Frogs in Equitation over Fences, dropping Halle Kutsche, 85-75. With the victory, Diamantis improved to 5-0 overall and captured her first MOP of the year. Kaitlin Perry and Jordan Appel were also victorious, downing Alexis Graves and Henley Adkins, respectively. Sophomore Molly Peddicord rounded out the Horned Frog notables, defeating Taylor Schmidt, 85-70.
In Equitation on the Flat, Diamantis continued her winning ways, capturing her second MOP of the day by upending Gretchen Koenen, 93-78.5. Perry also moved to 2-0 on the meet with a 74-72.5 drubbing of Schmidt. Kari Hancock claimed the final point for the Purple and White, defeating Adkins. Hancock is now 4-1 on the year in the discipline, while Perry, the reining NCEA Rider of the Month in Fences, improved to 4-0-1 overall, including 3-0 in league play.
On the Western side, TCU dropped K-State by a final score of 6-3, cruising to a 4-1 mark in Reining. Senior Katelyn Gray led the way for the Frogs in Reining, upending Kara Guy, 69.5-67. With the win, Gray, who was the Big 12 Rider of the Month last month, posted her second MOP of the season. Returning All-America honorees Alexi Child and Shelby St. Hilaire were also victorious in the discipline, while Chantz Stewart dropped Heidi Schmitz, 65.5-62.5.
In Horsemanship, Gray moved to 2-0 on the day, riding Jake to a 71-66 victory over Alyssa Lombardi. Sophomore Megan McMullen was just as strong, downing Paige Kemper, 73-66.5, en route to her second MOP of the young season.
TCU will have a few months off before taking on SMU on Friday, Feb. 6 at the Fort Worth Stock Show.
