TCU Takes Part In Baylor Fall Invite

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team picked up solid victories over the weekend at the Baylor HEB/Under Armour Fall Invite at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
Sophomore Sofiko Kadzhaya, along with newcomers Palina Dubavets, Alexis Pereira and Alexandra Zenovka all saw action for the first time this fall and faced opponents from Baylor, Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama, Ohio State and SMU.
The Horned Frogs opened the tournament by going 1-1 in doubles action and 3-1 in singles on Friday. Kadzhaya posted the biggest win of the weekend, after downing No. 37 Kiah Generette of Baylor for the Ukrainian's first victory over a ranked opponent in her TCU career. Kadzhaya was victorious in straight sets and defeated Generette, 6-4, 6-3.
TCU continued their run at the tournament by recording a doubles record of 1-1 and a singles record of 4-4 on Saturday. Dubavets went undefeated on the day and paired with Pereira to defeat Generette and Eliza Long of Baylor 8-7(4), before defeating Yana Erkeeva of SMU (6-0, 4-6, 6-0) and Grainne O'Neill of Ohio State (6-4, 6-2).
The tournament wrapped up on Sunday morning, with TCU going undefeated in doubles play. Dubavets and Pereira paired up to post their second straight win by defeating the South Alabama duo of Newton and Meszarosova, 8-1, while Kadzhaya and Zenovka earned a victory by walkover against the SMU team of Schmidt and Erkeeva.
Kadzhaya earned the lone singles victory on the final day by shutting down Ferny Paz of Ohio State, 7-5, 7-5.
The TCU women's tennis team will return to Waco in a few weeks to take part in the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships on Oct. 16-20.
