Trio Successful on Sunday in Waco

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU women's tennis player Simona Parajova won the consolation singles bracket, while the doubles duo of Stefanie Tan and Seda Arantekin earned a berth into the finals of the doubles bracket at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships on Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor in Waco, Texas.
Parajova notched three straight victories on Sunday to take the consolation crown, while Arantekin and Tan took out the duo from SMU to make it to the finals at 9 a.m., on Monday.
Parajova started her day by cruising to a straight-set 6-1, 6-1 victory in the quarterfinal over Katia Stavroulaki of UTPA. The Slovakia native, then faced Monica Pieratt of Texas State in the semifinals and was again victorious with a 6-2, 6-4 win.
Sarah Dvorak of Texas Tech awaited the senior in the final match, as Parajova opened with a 6-4 victory in the first set. Dvorak came back to take the second set 6-2 and make the match even and force a super tiebreaker third set for the title. Parajova came out on top and took a 10-8 victory in the final set for the championships title.
Arantekin and Tan continued to roll at the championships and became the first duo to make it to the finals since former TCU student-athletes Millie Nichols and Olivia Smith were able to win the regionals in 2011. The double tandem faced Hristina Dishkova and Holly Verner of SMU and took the match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
The pair will have to face the No. 1 seeded team out of Texas A&M, Maria Ines Deheza and Rachel Pierson, in the finals, with live video and live scoring available at BaylorBears.com.
Freshman Alexis Pereira's hot streak at the regional championships came to a close on Sunday with a semifinal loss to No. 68 Despoina Vogasari of Houston, 6-3, 6-1.
