FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis doubles team of senior Stefanie Tan and sophomore Seda Arantekin dropped the championship match of the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championship to Maria Ines Deheza and Rachel Pierson of Texas A&M, 6-1, 6-4, on Monday morning at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
The pair had won four consecutive matches headed into the championship match, but were not able to keep the streak alive as the No. 1 seeded duo from College Station were able to take the victory in straight sets.
TCU opened the match by holding its service game, but Texas A&M responded by winning the next six games to take the first set. The Frogs had to regroup after going down 4-1 in the second set by breaking the Aggies and holding serve twice to even the set at 4-4. The comeback would not be fulfilled as Texas A&M won the final two games to take the set 6-4 and the title.
Tan and Arantekin will now have to wait and see if they will earn an at-large bid to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing Meadows, New York on Nov. 7-10.
