Horned Frogs Head to Waco for Regionals

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team will travel to Waco, Texas to take part in the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships on Oct. 16-20 at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor.
Six Horned Frogs will compete in the singles and doubles brackets at the championships. The winners of the singles and doubles draws will earn an automatic bid into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York on Nov. 7-10. The annual regional will feature competitors from 17 different schools in Texas.
TCU will begin competition with doubles action on Thursday, as the doubles pairs of Sofiko Kadzhaya and Simona Parajova along with Palina Dubavets and Alexis Pereira will all start at 9 a.m. Kadzhaya and Parajova will face Anastasiya Shestakova and Alexis Thoma of North Texas, while Dubavets and Pereira will take on Lisa Bulgakova and Dasha Sharapova of SMU.
The doubles duo of Seda Arantekin and Stefanie Tan earned the No. 4 seed in the doubles bracket and a bye in the first round and will start doubles action on Friday at 9 a.m., against Mila Milanovic and Caitlyn Mitchell of Sam Houston State.
In the singles bracket that features 128 athletes, Pereira, Tan and Parajova all earned first-round byes and will not see singles action until the afternoon. Nationally ranked seniors, Tan and Parajova, earned the No. 3 and No. 11 seeds, respectively, in the bracket. No. 31 Tan and Pereira are set for a first serve at 2:30 p.m., while Parajova will compete at 3:30 p.m.
Kadzhaya, Arantekin and Dubavets will all see action in the first round of singles in the morning session. Kadzhaya will take on Taryn Strahl of Incarnate Words at 10:15 a.m., while Arantekin will face Ana Sofia Cordero of North Texas at 11:45 a.m., and Dubavets will match up with Mariana Ranzahuer of UTPA also at 11:45 a.m.
