Brandon Finnegan (0-4) was the tough-luck losing pitcher. In his first career complete game, Finnegan allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits. He walked three and fanned six.
The Frogs had a golden opportunity to take the early lead in the first. Boomer White led off the game with a double and made a great slide to beat the throw to third on a bunt off the bat of Paul Hendrix. With runners on the corners, Dillon Overton retired the next three batters he faced to get out of the inning unscathed.
Oklahoma had its chances early to get in front and finally took advantage in the third. Craig Aikin drew a four-pitch walk and wasted no time stealing second. Max White bounced a 2-0 offering up the middle for a 1-0 Oklahoma lead. After a pair of stolen bases, White was standing on third with two outs. An error on a ball that would have ended the inning allowed White to score for a 2-0 lead.
TCU cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth, scoring a run on a pair of hits. Jantzen Witte led off the frame with a base hit and moved to second on a bunt single from Kevin Cron. Jerrick Suiter flew out to deep center, allowing Witte to get to third. Derek Odell hit a towering fly ball to right for a sacrifice fly, making it a 2-1 ballgame.
The Sooners got the run back in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of another TCU error. Matt Oberste lined a single through the right side with one out. Kolbey Carpenter singled to left, but the ball bounded to the wall allowing Oberste to score all the way from first to give the Sooners back their two-run lead, 3-1.
TCU looked poised to climb back in the game in the top of the eighth as it loaded the bases with only one out. Dylan Fitzgerald started the rally with a line drive up the middle. Witte followed with a single through the left side. With one out, Suiter blooped a singled over a diving second baseman to load the bases. The Sooners went to their bullpen and brought on their closer and he did his job, retiring the final two batters in the inning to leave the bases loaded.
TCU falls to 9-13 overall and 1-4 in Big 12 play. The Frogs will try and salvage a game in the series Sunday afternoon. Andrew Mitchell will make his first start of the season and face the Sooners Adam Choplick. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Fans can watch the game live on Fox Sports Southwest+.
