
Rifle Dominates In Win Over West Virginia

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Rifle team stands alone at the top as the only undefeated team in the NCAA after a dominating 4,701-4,669 victory over West Virginia. The win is the 27th straight regular season victory for the Horned Frogs who improve to 8-0 on the season.
In what has become the norm for the Frogs, TCU fired an impressive 4,701 (2,338 in smallbore and 2,363 in air rifle) aggregate score. It's the third time this season the Frogs surpassed the 4,700 mark. West Virginia entered Saturday's match with an 8-0 record.
"The team is at the top of their game right now and it was nice to see another good performance today," remarked head coach Karen Monez.
TCU got a solid performance in smallbore to take early control of the match. The Frogs fired four of the top five scores to help them to a 2,338-2,311 victory in the discipline. Sarah Scherer paced all shooters with a 589. She was followed by Sarah Beard's mark of 586.
Mattie Brogdon turned in a score of 583 for a fourth place finish and Caitlin Morrissey rounded out the top five with a 580. Catherine Green fired a 576 to finish seventh.
The Frogs and the Mountaineers went head-to-head in air rifle with TCU pulling out a five-point victory, 2,368-2,358. For the eighth straight match, Scherer took home top honors with a score of 595. Beard was close behind with a season-high 594. Morrissey finished fifth after shooting a 590.
Jaime Dowd improved her personal-best by four points, shooting a 588 to finish seventh. Brogdon fired a 584 and Green a 582 to account for the Frogs' team aggregate.
The Horned Frogs will hit the road for the next two weeks. TCU travels to Air Force for a Saturday match-up with the Falcons before heading to UTEP on Feb. 11
