
Rifle Remains Undefeated; Tops Air Force

USAFA, Colo. - The TCU rifle team remained the only undefeated team in the country with a dominating 4695-4618 victory over Air Force Saturday. The victory moves the Horned Frogs to 9-0 on the season and marks the 28th straight regular season win.Another strong performance in smallbore set the tone for the entire match as the Frogs opened up a 2330-2283 lead in the match. Sarah Scherer remained undefeated this season, shooting a 587 in the discipline to take home the top spot. Sarah Beard made it a 1-2 finish for the Frogs after firing a 583 in smallbore.
Catherine Green turned in a solid performance with a fourth place finish after shooting a 580, just one off of her season-best. Caitlin Morrissey matched Green's effort to finish fifth. Rounding out the counters for the Frogs was Mattie Brogdon, who posted a mark of 573.
Also shooting for the Frogs were Claudia Duksa (572) and Nicole Markakis (538).
In air rifle, the Frogs produced their second-highest team score of the season, firing a 2365 to claim a 30-point win in the event over the Falcons. TCU laid claim to the top three spots in air rifle led by Scherer, who shot a 599, just missing a perfect 600 with a 99 in her third string of 10-shots. Morrissey matched her season-high with a 590 to finish second and Beard took home third place with a score of 590. Brogdon rounded out the top five after shooting a 587. Green finished ninth with a score of 583.
Also shooting for the Frogs were Duksa (573), Jaime Dowd (584) and Makrakis (553).
TCU will wrap up its brief road swing on Feb. 11 as it heads to El Paso for a meeting against the UTEP Miners.
