TCU Opens Play at SFASU Fall Invite

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - TCU's women's tennis team opened play Friday at the Stephen F. Austin Fall Invitational with Federica Denti advancing to the semifinal round in Flight A doubles competition.
With TCU sending only three to the event, Denti joined Elena Kordolaimi of the host school in doubles action. The duo knocked off Olha Bazhanova and Amy Williams of Northwestern State, 8-4.
Denti and Kordolaimi will take on Edyta Cieplucha and Marta Lesniak of SMU in Saturday's semifinal round. Lesniak is the No. 10 singles player in the nation, according to the ITA Preseason Singles Rankings.
Denti also picked up a win in the consolation quarterfinal round of the Flight A singles bracket. The Bellano, Italy, native was a 6-4, 6-0, winner over Jagua Imke of Sam Houston State.
In other action for TCU, freshman Gabi Fernandez fell in a tough three-set match in the first round of the Flight D singles bracket. Dana Sardak of Northwestern State got the better of Fernandez, 6-1, 4-6, 10-4. Fernandez fell to Louisiana Tech's Alena Erofeyeva, 6-2, 6-0 in the consolation quarterfinal round of the bracket.
In Flight B doubles play, Fernandez and Molly Welsh fell to Stephen F. Austin's Tatyana Postnikova and Kayla Stevenson, 8-2.
