
Simonson Leads Horned Frogs At South Carolina

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - Junior Kolby Simonson collected MVP accolades to lead the Western team to a 698-583.5 raw score victory on Friday, but TCU dropped a 14-6 decision to South Carolina at One Wood Farm."Today was a huge win for the Western team. It was our first game of the year against a great team and I am so proud of the girls," said assistant coach Kindel Huffman. "We couldn't ask for a better start to our season."
Simonson, a Colorado native, captured her third MVP accolade of her career Friday in Reining by downing Annie Laurie McDonald, 74.5-72. Freshman Katelyn Gray was also victorious, claiming her first collegiate win over Amanda Pope. Alexie Child rounded out the TCU scoring in the event, dropping Jordan Brown.
In Horsemanship, returning All-America honoree Courtney Chown got her senior season started in the right direction, upending Katie Kopf, 73.5-72.5. With the win, Chown has now won 10-straight regular-season matches dating back to last spring and is 12-1-0 in her last 13 outings. Taylor Prince garnered the other point for the Purple and White in Horsemanship, dropping Maggie Fortune.
Overall, TCU battled USC to a 5-5 draw in Western, but won by a raw score total of 698. The Horned Frogs, who dropped the Gamecocks in Reining 3-2, scored totals of 359.5 in Horsemanship and 338.5 in Reining, respectively.
Junior Haley Jacobi led TCU in Equitation over Fences Friday, defeating Catherine Pasmore, 78-76. Jacobi almost scored a point for the Frogs in Equitation on the Flat, but couldn't pull out the victory, falling to Emma Johnson, 72-70. Callie Selchau appeared to have scored a point for the Horned Frogs on the Flat, but was upended by Logan Holler, 68-67.
With the loss, the Purple and White dropped to 0-2 on the season, while South Carolina improved to 2-0.
TCU will be back in action Saturday, traveling to Alabama to battle defending National Champion Auburn at 10 a.m. CT.
