FORT WORTH - TCU's women's tennis team fell victim to Wake Forest on Monday, dropping a 6-1 decision at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.
"I thought we competed hard, we're just banged up physically right now," TCU coach Dave Borelli said. "We've got to keep working and find some more confidence. That's the most important thing for us."
In doubles action, the Horned Frogs won at No. 3 doubles, but were stopped at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles as the Demon Deacons claimed the crucial doubles point.
TCU's Maria Babanova and Idunn Hertzberg improved to 2-4 on the spring with an 8-5 win over Wake's Brigita Bercyte and Ryann Cutillo at the No. 3 position.
However, Wake bounced back when No. 17-ranked Kayla Duncan and Kathryn Talbert claimed an 8-4 win over TCU's No. 1 doubles duo of Federica Denti and Katariina Tuohimaa.
Emilee Malhevy and Martina Pavelec clinched the doubles point soon after with an 8-4 win over TCU's Gaby Mastromarino and Olivia Smith at the No. 2 slot.
The Demon Deacons got right back to it in singles play as Duncan was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Hertzberg at No. 4 singles to make the score 2-0 in favor of Wake.
TCU was up a set on court No. 6 when senior Babanova was forced to retire against Wake's Mydlowska in the second set to push the Demon Deacon lead to 3-0. Babanova won the first set 6-3 and was trailing 3-0 in the second when an injury halted the match.
In a highly-competitive match at No. 1 singles, Wake clinched the four needed points to win the match when the 45th-ranked Pavelec bettered TCU's Tuohimaa, 7-5, 7-5.
Wake extended its lead to 5-0 with at No. 5 singles. Cutillo downed Shalini Sahoo of TCU by a count of 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

In the final match of the afternoon at No. 3 singles, Wake's Malvehy got the better of Denti, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to finish off a 6-1 Demon Deacon win.
