Frogs Fall To Toreros Sunday

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The TCU men's tennis struggled against No. 20 San Diego, dropping a 6-1 decision to the Toreros Sunday at the Hogan Tennis Center.
"It was a tough order to bounce back the next day and take on a top-20 team on their own courts," TCU head coach David Roditi said. "I'm proud of our team and the way they competed. We are continuing to learn about this team and they way we can play. I'm not happy with the way we are looking in doubles. That is usually our strong point, but it's not right now. Now we are going to come home and get our doubles going again. I think we will be better team this week and the rest of the season because of our trip to California."
TCU dropped all three doubles matches to start the day in a 1-0 deficit. After the Horned Frogs' team of senior Zach Nichols and junior Paul Chappell fell from the No. 3 court, USD clinched the double point with an 8-5 win over TCU's team of Slah Mbarek and Daniel Sanchez.
The Toreros continued to put the pressure on the Frogs in the singles portion Sunday, earning the first three wins of the day to seal the team victory quickly. After taking matches at the fourth court and top position, Patrick Pohlmann clinched this victory for USD with a three-set win over TCU sophomore Soren Goritzka, 6-0, 3-6, 6-0.
Junior Daniel Sanchez claimed the lone point for TCU, collecting a 6-3, 7-5 win over USD's Emilio Mora at the No. 6 spot. The Monterrey, Mexico, product earned his third-consecutive victory and fourth in the Frogs' last five matches.
TCU (3-7) will return to campus to host Columbia and New Mexico State at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, March 17-18.
