Frogs Climb Leaderboard at Amer Ari Invitational

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii—The TCU men's golf team rose four spots during day two competition Thursday at the 21st annual Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings' Club. The three-day tournament will conclude Friday.
The Horned Frogs, who were in a tie for 12th place following Wednesday's day one action, combined to card a 6-under par 281 Thursday to climb into a tie for eight place with Oregon and UC Davis. TCU's team score was the fourth-lowest on the day among the 20-squad field.
Junior Johan de Beer finished the day as the Frogs' top individual on the leaderboard, carding a 4-under par 68 to move into a tie for sixth place at -7 for the tournament. He was one of 17 players at -4 or better on the day after posting seven birdies and an eagle to offset a pair of bogeys on holes No. 5 and 7.
Also shooting a 68 was junior Eli Cole, who sits in a tie for 23rd place at -3 for the week. Cole tallied seven birdies Thursday.
Sophomore Pontus Gad joined de Beer and Cole in the red figures with a 1-under 71. He currently ranks tied for 38th at -1 for the tourney. Freshman Johnny Antle and senior Tom Hoge round out the TCU squad in ties for 73rd and 82nd places, respectively. Antle is at +3 overall following a 74 on Thursday, while Hoge is at +4 after shooting 75 on day two.
The Amer Ari Invitational concludes Friday with the final 18 holes of competition. All players are scheduled to tee off at 7:30 a.m. Live results for the tournament are available on-line at Golfstat.com.
