POSTGAME QUOTES
No. 7 BYU 79, TCU 56
Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum)
Feb. 19, 2011
Attendance: 7,258
TCU HEAD COACH Jim Christian
On his team's performance:
"I thought we played hard. J.R. (Cadot) gave us a phenomenal game. Our biggest problem is we're really struggling to shoot the ball. We're playing BYU, and if you told me before the game we're only going to turn the ball over eight times and we're going to get 65 shots, I would have taken it. But if you're going to shoot 30 percent, you're not beating BYU."
On the crowd at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum:
"It was a great environment. I look forward to the day when the crowd is all purple, but this is a special season for Jimmer Fredette and their team. It's not very often you get to see a National Player of the Year candidate and National Coach of the Year candidate in one building."
On preparing to guard Jimmer Fredette:
"You have to stop him in transition or he'll just kill you. You have to have one guy whose sole mission is guarding him. I think J.R. (Cadot) did as good of a job on him as anybody in this league. The first time we played them, we trapped him and we didn't trap him tonight. J.R. played him."
TCU JUNIOR FORWARD J.R. Cadot
On playing in front of a large crowd at home:
"It was really nice. A lot of the crowd was BYU's crowd, but just them being in there and cheering made us want it more and made us compete more."
On BYU:
"They never give up. If you run at them or have them back on their heels, they never give up. They seem to have confidence no matter what is going on in the game. That's what great teams have, and I take my hat off to them."
TCU JUNIOR GUARD Hank Thorns
On the differences in playing in front of a capacity crowd:
"It makes a lot of difference. When you go up and you're at home, you get a lot of momentum that way. When we played at San Diego State, they got a lot of momentum and came back and closed the game out. The crowd plays a big factor."
On the final stretch of the season:
"We're trying to get over the hump. It's hard, but that's what we're looking for. We need that one win, and I think we'll get a couple from there. We can't get over the hump for some reason. Poor shooting has been killing us so far."
On TCU's performance:
"We played pretty good defense. If we had hit our shots, it would have been great. We can't shoot this poorly in our own building. That's what coach (Christian) emphasized and we know it. We have to get back to getting extra work in the gym."
BYU HEAD COACH DAVE ROSE
On the win:
"I thought that we got a lot of help from a lot of guys. The guys played well. We got off to a great start. It was an aggressive game from start to finish. It was a really good win."
On the game's atmosphere:
"This was a really great experience for our players. I think that the last two or three games on the road for us has been sold out, and I think it's a tribute to this team. I think because this is our last year in the league, we are getting a lot of fans that are coming to watch the team."
