BENCHMARKINGScott Kull, our associate athletics director for external operations, has returned from a very productive two days of meetings in Tampa. Organized by our future Big East Conference rival USF, a group of 16 schools located in pro markets met to discuss marketing strategies. Benchmarking other institutions and the swapping of ideas among colleagues is always very helpful in evaluating how we do things and finding ways to get better. On the heels of our record-breaking year for football season-ticket sales, we hope others were able to benefit from some of our initiatives.
A DAY AT TCU
There will be no shortage of excitement up and down Stadium Drive and Bellaire Drive Saturday afternoon. We have a sellout in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum for our men's basketball game with BYU, while our No. 1-ranked baseball team hosts Kansas. First pitch is 2 p.m. at Lupton Stadium, while the opening tip is at 3:30 in the DMC.
HOOPS TONIGHT
Before we get to Saturday, please don't forget we have a home men's basketball game tonight at 7 versus a Colorado State team that's receiving votes in the top 25.
NEW DIGS
In the next few days, our Frog Club office will be relocating from the Dee J. Kelly Alumni Center to the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. John Denton and his outstanding staff are moving into the suite previously occupied by our track and field program, now housed with several of our other Olympic sports in the Pond Street facility.
HOT ITEMS
We've already sold a record 2,300 baseball season tickets and have less than 50 remaining. Reserved parking spots are also at a premium. Only a few remain through our Frog Club at (817) 257-7700 or www.frogclub.tcu.edu.
OPENING WEEKEND
We have some special giveaways planned for the opening two games of our baseball season. Fans coming to Friday's 6:30 p.m. season opener with Kansas will receive a commemorative poster, while schedule magnets will be distributed Saturday. All reserved seats are sold out for Friday night as well as next Friday and Saturday for Cal State Fullerton.
THEMES
Our top-ranked baseball team has dedicated this season to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and its fight against breast cancer. The theme for Jim Schlossnagle's 2011 squad is "We Fight Back."
KIND WORDS
We hope you saw or heard about the kind words former University of Texas quarterback Colt McCoy had to say about TCU and Gary Patterson in this past week's Sports Illustrated. Colt has always represented himself and his university well, and we are most appreciative of his wonderful comments regarding our program.
MORE HARD HATS NEEDED
We have officially started work on our new weight room, located adjacent to the Sam Baugh Indoor Practice Facility. Completion is targeted for this September. The new facility might be the reason you see Don Sommer, our head strength and conditioning coach, walking with a big smile these days.
SAVE THE DATE
As a reminder, please mark your calendar for April 22 when the 14th-annual Charles Coody Classic will be held at Texas Star in Euless. This event is a very popular and successful fundraiser for us.
NATIONAL CHAMPS
Our national championship rifle squad just completed an undefeated regular season while running its winning streak to 23 in a row. We'll next be in action March 11-12 in Columbus, Ga., as we look to defend our title at the NCAA Championships.
IT'S A GIRL!
Congratulations to volleyball coach Prentice Lewis and her husband, Jeff, on the birth of their daughter, Landry Madison, last week. I'm sure Landry will be making her first set or spike very soon.
KEEP IN TOUCH
Please let us know if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding our program. This is also your program and we value your feedback.
