FORT WORTH - TCU's swimming and diving teams both picked up wins Saturday afternoon over visiting Wyoming inside the TCU University Rec Center Natatorium.
The men's squad grabbed a 193.5-106.5 triumph, while the women's team was a 166-134 winner. It was the first time in the last five meets with Wyoming that the women's squad has beaten its Mountain West rival.
TCU's women improved to 5-1 on the year, surpassing its win total from a year ago. The men's team improved to 3-2 this season. Wyoming dropped to 1-3 on the women's side and 0-2 for its men.
"This is a great win for us, especially for our women to get only their second win ever against Wyoming," TCU coach Richard Sybesma said. "With the football team knocking off Wyoming today as well, it's a good day to be a Horned Frog."
Wyoming jumped to an early lead in the women's dual, with wins in the 200-medley relay and 1000-free to open the dual before the Frogs seized control in the 200-free. Katie Scarsella (1:53.27), Ashley Bolin (1:55.56) and Kristi Dena (1:56.68) went 1-2-3, respectively in the 200-free. Their 16 team points gave TCU the spark it needed.
Sprinter Sabine Rasch was brilliant once again for TCU, grabbing wins in the 50-free and 100-free. She touched the wall in 23.65 in the 50-free and 51.48 in the 100-free. The Luckenwalde, Germany, native has been beaten only once in a sprint event while wearing a TCU uniform.
Junior Katie Lybbert had her second-straight stellar day from the air, notching wins on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard with scores of 251.70 and 297.90, respectively. The Argyle, Texas, native moved into fourth place all-time at TCU on the 3-meter board.
TCU record holder Amanda Vincent added a win in the 200-fly with her 2:03.71. She returned to the water later in the meet to clock a 56.42 while touching the wall first in the 100-fly.
The Frogs also got wins from two freshmen with Elizabeth Oster's win in the 100-back (58.84) and Mackenzie Schuler's win in the 500-free (5:05.32). In the meet's final event, Rasch, Scarsella, Zrinka Korac and Parris Schoppa won the 400-free relay in 3:28.21.
On the men's side, TCU senior leaders Edgar Crespo and Laszlo Gyurko once again anchored the Frogs as they steamrolled the Cowboys to improve to 5-2 in the all-time series. Both TCU swimmers were a part of four TCU wins.
Crespo won three individual events, as well as swimming the breaststroke leg of TCU's 200-medley relay that opened the meet with a win. Individually, the Panama City, Panama, native won the 100-breast in 54.91, the 200-breast in 2:01.41 and the 200-individual medley in 1:54.48.
Gyurko swam the backstroke leg of the 200-medley relay, as well as the lead-off leg of the TCU 400-free relay that closed the meet with first-place honors. On his own, the Szekszard, Hungary, native won the 100-back (50.35) and 100-free (45.88).
Newcomer Luiz Azarias notched wins in the 100-fly and 200-fly. In the 100-fly, Azarias touched the wall in 50.58 and in 1:51.05 in the 200-fly. It represented the first two wins at TCU for the Uberlandia, Brazil, native.
TCU got two wins from its freshmen as well, with Cooper Robinson and Ricky Bradley notching their first-career victories. Robinson won the 200-back in 1:50.57, while Bradley scored a 291.30 to win the 3-meter springboard.
Junior Devin Price added a first-place tie in the 50-free (21.03) for TCU's other individual event win, while Gyurko, Ryan Wilcox, August Van Allen and Price notched a 3:04.28 to win the 400-free relay.
The Frogs return to action next weekend when both teams travel to New Brunswick, N.J., to take on Rutgers, Seton Hall and St. Peter's College.
