FORT WORTH--After signing with the TCU men's golf team this past spring, heralded freshman Julien Brun was expected to be a high-impact addition to head coach Bill Montigel's program. The native of Antibes, France, has exceeded all expectations, impressing the collegiate golf world with his outstanding first season featuring four top-10 finishes in four tournament appearances.
Brun finished the fall ranked second in the Mountain West. He posted one tournament win at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate (70-67-71) while adding two other top-5 finishes at the McLaughlin (T-3rd) and the Jack Nicklaus Invitational (T-5th). He also had a top-10 finish at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational.
The four top-10 finishes have allowed Brun to claim some high individual ratings, including No. 2 among all French amateurs, No. 12 in Golfweek/Sagarin collegiate rankings and No. 22 in the R&A World Amateur Golf Rankings.
In addition to the lofty ratings, Brun also shared Mountain West Golfer of the Month honors for October with UNLV Junior Kevin Penner and was named TCU Men's Athlete of the Week on Sept. 7.
"This is the most successful fall season for any golfer I have ever had, and he's only a freshman," head coach Bill Montigel said.
Brun is not the only TCU golfer to have a solid fall campaign. Daniel Jennevret, a junior from Sandviken, Sweden, is ranked No. 8 in the Mountain West and is ranked No. 50 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
Jennevret posted two top-5 finishes of his own at Turning Stone (2nd) and The McLaughin (2nd). His lowest carded score of the fall was a 65 in the final round at The McLaughin.
As a team, TCU posted three top-10 finishes and one top-20 showing in the fall. The squad will begin the spring campaign in early February at the Amer Ari Invitational in Kona, Hawaii.
