TCU (7-8-1, 1-3 MW) edged the Cowgirls in shot attempts for the match, 22-21. Senior Alex Mechalske paced the Purple and White with five strikes for the afternoon, while redshirt freshman Brooke Kviz had four shots of her own.
Each team landed three shots on goal in the opening period. The Frogs had a nice look to get on the board in the ninth minute, as junior Elise Kensinger sent a nice ball into a crowd, but over the head of incoming freshman Tori Hale and through the box untouched.
TCU had a couple of strong looks off a corner kick from Mechalske later in the half. The ball went into the box and found the foot of junior midfielder Monica Alvarado, but her attempt was blocked by a Wyoming defender. Kviz had a chance on the rebound, but her sliding shot sailed wide left.
Mechalske had a chance of her own to light up the scoreboard for TCU towards in the end of the period, but her open look fluttered left in the 40th minute.
Minutes into the second half, Kviz dribbled the ball deep into the left side of the box, but her shot was smothered by the Cowgirls' goalkeeper.
TCU battled back to tie the match at the 51:29 mark on a penalty kick from Kviz. After Hale fielded the ball on the left side of the Wyoming box, she was taken down by a Cowgirl defender to give the Frogs a free chance. Kviz rolled the attempt right past the diving goalkeeper for her fifth goal of the season. It was her second penalty kick conversion of the fall and her third-straight game with a score. The Keller, Texas native became the first Frog to convert a pair of penalty kicks in a season since Michelle Nguyen landed two PK's in 2007.
With the match knotted at 1-1, TCU turned up the pressure on offense. Senior Kaylie Garcia unleashed a shot on goal, but her attempt was blocked before it made its final destination. Kviz had a chance to flick the ball towards the Wyoming net on the rebound, but her effort slid wide.
Senior Kristen Halverson did her part to help out in the match, rattling off a pair of blasts that sailed high from inside the box. In the final five minutes, Alvarado got another opportunity to find the back of the net, but her shot was blocked out of bounds. On the ensuing corner kick, Mechalske fluttered a set into the box, but couldn't find a Frog in the shuffle.
TCU will hit the road this weekend to take on Boise State Friday. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
