2010-11 TCU WOMEN'S TENNIS SCHEDULE
FORT WORTH—The TCU women's tennis program has lined up another challenging collection of opponents, as head coach Jefferson Hammond announced his team's 2010-11 fall and spring schedules Wednesday. Highlighting the spring campaign are 17 of 23 regular-season matches against teams that finished this past season among the nationally ranked.
TCU is known for annually putting together one of the nation's toughest non-conference schedules. This past spring, the Frogs opened their campaign by playing 12 consecutive matches against squads rated no lower than No. 58 nationally.
Twelve teams that finished in the top-50 of the final 2009-10 ITA national poll are included on TCU's 2010-11 spring slate, including five that will visit Fort Worth: No. 48 Rice (Jan. 24), No. 23 Washington (Feb. 25), No. 42 Oklahoma (March 5), No. 10 Miami (March 12) and No. 40 Utah (April 2). Other challenging matches for the Frogs on the road include: No. 39 Saint Mary's (at Berkeley, Calif.; Jan. 28), No. 12 Cal (possible opponent; Jan. 29), No. 37 Texas A&M (Feb. 12), No. 29 SMU (Feb. 23), No. 41 NC State (March 13), No. 31 VCU (March 14) and No. 30 UNLV (April 9).
TCU will play 10 home matches overall at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center after opening up against Rice on Jan. 24. The squad will play four straight home matches over a three-week period from late February to mid-March against the likes of Washington (Feb. 25), Oklahoma (March 5), Wake Forest (March 7) and Miami (March 12).
Following their spring opener against the Owls, the Frogs will head west to Berkeley, Calif., to participate in the Round of 64 of the ITA National Indoor Championships Jan. 28-29. TCU will open play against St. Mary's before facing either North Texas or Cal. The champion of the four-team regional will advance to play in the Round of 16 at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 18-21 in Charlottesville, Va.
Including the first and second rounds of ITA National Indoors, TCU will play no fewer than 12 matches against teams ranked at least No. 66 in last spring's final ITA national poll. The number would grow if the squad advances to Charlottesville.
Other non-conference matches of interest include a meeting with Maryland (March 17) in College Park, Md., prior to Metroplex dates with Kentucky (March 19) in Fort Worth and UT Arlington (March 23) in Arlington, Texas, to wrap up the non-league schedule.
The Frogs open Mountain West Conference competition April 1 in Fort Worth with a three-match homestand against BYU (April 1), Utah (April 2) and New Mexico (April 3). The squad then travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for matches against UNLV (April 9) and San Diego State (April 10) before closing out the league schedule in Colorado Springs, Colo., against Colorado State (April 15), Wyoming (April 16) and Air Force (April 17).
The Mountain West Conference Championships, which the Frogs have won three times in the last five seasons, will be held in Fort Collins, Colo.
TCU's fall schedule features at least four different tournaments, starting with the Racquet Club Invitational Sept. 17-19 in Midland, Texas. The ITA All-American returns to Pacific Palisades, Calif., Oct. 2-10, while the Frogs also expect to compete at the Northwestern Invitational in Evanston, Ill., Oct. 8-10. The ITA Southwest Regional will be held Oct. 22-26 in Waco, Texas. Any student-athletes that advance through regionals will travel to Flushing Meadows, N.Y., for the ITA National lndoor Championships Nov. 4-7.
