
Frog Women's Trio Set for NCAA Individual Play

FORT WORTH—Nina Munch-Soegaard, Kayla Duncan and Katariina Tuohimaa will begin play at the 2010 NCAA Women's Individual Tennis Championships this week at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. Munch-Soegaard, ranked No. 55 nationally, will kick-off action from the singles bracket Wednesday, while the 46th-ranked duo of Duncan and Tuohimaa hit the court Thursday.
Munch-Soegaard will face No. 40 Bianca Eichkorn of Miami in Wednesday's opening round of the 64-player singles championship,. First serve is set for 3 p.m. The Frog senior owns a 14-12 record, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. Facing a ranked opponent in Eichkorn with be nothing new for Much-Soegaard, as 20 of her 26 matches this spring have been against players listed among the ITA's top-125 players.
Currently boasting a 95-45 career singles record, Munch-Soegaard is only one win shy of matching former Frog Teresa Dobson for fifth place on TCU's career singles wins list. She advanced to the NCAA Singles Championships for the second consecutive season following her first career appearance last spring.
Eichkorn, who played primarily at No. 2 singles for the Hurricanes this spring, reached the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Championships a season ago and is 28-4 overall in 2009-10. She posted a perfect 23-0 record in dual-match action and will bring a 24-match winning streak into Wednesday.
Duncan and Tuohimaa will open the 32-team NCAA doubles competition Thursday against Northwestern's 24th-ranked pairing of Elena Chernyakova and Lauren Lui. The Frog duo is 18-9 overall in 2009-10, including a 14-6 mark this spring, and owns six wins in seven matches against ranked opponents. Both players will be making their debuts at the NCAA Individual Championships.
The Wildcats' Chernyakova and Lui are 8-8 overall this season, including a 4-7 mark in spring dual-match play. Five of the duo's victories have come against ranked opponents. Lui is a three-time qualifier for the NCAA doubles competition, while Chernyakova will be making her first career appearance. Lui paired with former teammate Georgia Rose to reach the NCAA Quarterfinals a season ago.
