
No. 8 Horned Frogs Down SMU On Friday

MANSFIELD, Texas - The nationally ranked TCU equestrian program closed its season on Friday upending SMU, 7-5, at Fieldstone Park.The Horned Frogs scored a 4-2 decision in Equitation over Fences on Friday afternoon, outscoring SMU, 472-445. The Frogs also outscored the Mustangs in Equitation on the Flat, 427-420, but ended competition in a 3-3 draw. Overall, the Purple and White dominated its cross-town counterparts on Friday, 899-865.
"We have been working really hard to get to this point, so it was good to see it all come together today," said assistant coach Kindel Huffman. "I thought all the girls rode really well today. Overall, Milana Trimino had a great go in the Flat, while Callie Selchau did really well in Fences."
Callie Selchau recorded TCU's first point in Fences, downing Emily Gardner, 83-60. Haley Jacobi and Victoria Lee were also victorious in the event, defeating Lauren Lieberman and Lindsay Straufuss, respectively. Sophomore Chelsey Sample tallied the final point for the Frogs in Fences, winning 78-75 over Kristen Collins.
In Equitation on the Flat, Jessica Hagen, a junior from California, notched a 77-75 victory over Claire Wenholz at Fieldstone Park. Junior Milana Trimino upended Mallory Olson, 78-65, to claim MVP accolades in the event, while Selchau recorded her second victory of the day, scoring a 66-62 decision over Maia Van Dyke.
With the win, TCU improved to 10-7 overall, while SMU dropped to 3-5 on the year.
The Horned Frogs will next be in action at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships on April 15-17 in Waco.
