POSTGAME QUOTES
TCU 79, UNLV 64
Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum)
Feb. 23, 2010
Attendance: 2,431
TCU HEAD COACH Jeff Mittie
Opening Statement
"I thought it was good to get back on the floor. We played welll in some areas and not so well in others. One of the things that I expected was some sloppiness early, and we had that. What I didn't expect was that our communication would be so poor early in the game defensively. That was one of the things that surprised me. Defensively, we did not come out as well as I wanted us to. We gave them way too many offensive rebounds and way too many opportunities in the first half. Things did improve in the second half. Offensively, we had times when we looked good and other times where we also looked sloppy. It was kind of a mixed bag tonight."
On TCU's improvement throughout the game
"I thought we were going to work our way out of the sloppiness. UNLV switches a lot of defenses and you can get sloppy against them, but you are also going to get a lot of opportunities. We really tried to be more fundamental with the basketball. We ended up with 23 assists tonight, so we obviously shared the ball pretty well."
On the seven-day layoff between games
"I think that the break has been good for us. I think we are really energized right now. I thought our legs were good tonight. The break came at the right time. We had three games in seven days, and two of those were the longest road trips of the year. Coming off of that, we gave them some rest. I think we are about as healthy as we can be going into the stretch here."
TCU JUNIOR GUARD Emily Carter
On matching a career-high 25 points Tuesday
"I was just feeling it for most of the game. I think we did a really good job of sharing the ball. When you have multiple threats out on the court, it's hard to stop every person that is out there. Everyone for our team that is out there can score, and tonight was my night. Next game it could be some one else's night. My teammates just did a really good job of getting me the ball when I was open."
On comparing Tuesday's win with the Frogs' loss to San Diego State on Feb. 16
"We really didn't do much right that game, as far as our energy and our effort, and that's what it starts with. The main thing that we were focused on tonight was giving it our all and playing our game. We were all on one page, and when we play like that, we are going to get open shots. We got the ball in the middle of their zone and I think that frustrated them. We also had some good kick-outs and fast breaks."
