FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU offensive tackle Marcus Cannon has been named an honorable-mention All-American by Pro Football Weekly.
PFW's All-America team is based on feedback from NFL evaluators taking into consideration a player's pure talent and contribution to his team. PFW also places a premium on draft value in the selection process.
Cannon has been ranked by ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. as the fifth-best offensive tackle available in the 2011 National Football League draft.
A 6-foot-6, 350-pound senior from Odessa, Texas, Cannon has a hang clean of 500 pounds, an incline of 520 pounds, a squat of 750 pounds and a bench of 530 pounds.
Cannon has had a dominant season in his first year at left tackle. He started the previous two seasons at right tackle. He is a three-time All-Mountain West Conference selection.
Cannon helps anchor a TCU offensive line that paves the way for the Horned Frogs to rank fourth nationally in scoring offense (43.3 points per game), eighth in rushing (261.2 yards per game) and ninth in total offense (491.5 yards per game). The Horned Frogs have allowed just nine sacks this season, tied for the seventh-lowest total in the nation.
TCU has set single-season school records for touchdowns (70) and points scored (520). The Horned Frogs need just three first downs and 40 yards of total offense to set new marks in those categories as well.
Cannon has also been named to All-America teams by SI.com and Rivals.com.
