Frogs Advance at HEB Baylor Invitational

WACO, Texas - TCU's women's tennis team advanced one doubles team to the quarterfinal round and one singles participant to the Round of 16 on Friday at the HEB Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas.
The second-seeded duo of Katariina Tuohimaa and Federica Denti were 8-5 winners over Julie Mazinova and Audrey Wooland of Lousiana-Lafayette.
The Frog tandem improved to 3-1 as doubles partners during the fall and will square off with Lamar's Mariayeni Gutierrez and Kaltrina Harbuzi in Saturday's quarterfinal.
Tuohimaa, the No. 3 seed in the singles bracket, notched a 6-2, 6-3 win over Sandra Dynka of Texas Tech after receiving a first-round bye. The Helsinki, Finland, native advances to take on UTA's Linda Aquist in the Round of 16.
In the doubles round of 32, TCU got wins from the doubles teams of Gaby Mastromarino and Shalini Sahoo, as well as Maria Babanova and Idunn Hertzberg.
Mastromarino and Sahoo blanked UTA's Nikola Matovicova and Katarina Micochova, 8-0. Babanova and Hertzberg picked up an 8-3 triumph over Aquist and Dortona Giada of UTA.
TCU also got wins two wins in the singles Round of 64 when Hertzberg downed Micochova, 6-1, 6-1 and Denti knocked off Marcovich, 6-4, 6-1.
After falling in the Round of 64, Babanova bounced back to down Madura Ranganathan of North Texas, 6-4, 3-6, (10-6).
TCU returns to action at the HEB Baylor Invitational on Saturday with action in the doubles quarterfinal round, consolation singles third round and consolation singles quarterfinal round.
