No. 3 TCU vs. San Diego State
Nov. 13, 2010
Attendance: 45,694
Final: No. 3 TCU 40, San Diego State 35
Team Notes
*TCU (11-0, 7-0) clinched at least a share of the Mountain West Conference championship. The Horned Frogs can win the outright title with either a victory in its Nov. 27 season finale at New Mexico or a Utah loss in one of the Utes' final two conference games. TCU has now won three MWC championships since beginning league play in 2005.
*Today's game marked the final contest in the existing Amon G. Carter Stadium. A $105 million renovation of TCU's 80-year-old home will begin immediately. An implosion of the press box side of the stadium will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, at 8 a.m.
*Today's attendance of 45,694 represented TCU's third sellout of the season and fourth in the last eight home games. TCU set a single-season attendance record for the second straight year, averaging 42,466. Last year's record total was 38,187.
*TCU has reached the 11-win mark for the sixth time in the last eight seasons. The Horned Frogs are 11-0 for the second straight year.
*TCU extended its school-record regular-season winning streak to 24 games. The Horned Frogs have won 25 of their last 26 contests overall and are 37-3 in their last 40 games.
*TCU's seniors won their 42nd game, tying last year's senior class for the most victories in program history over a four-year period. With one more victory, the Horned Frogs will see their seniors graduate as the all-time winningest class for a third-straight season.
*In seven Mountain West Conference games this season, TCU has outscored its opponents 276-58. The Horned Frogs have allowed just seven offensive touchdowns in that stretch.
*TCU has scored 454 points this season, ranking second all-time in school history. The TCU record, set last year, is 498. The top-three point totals in TCU history have been accomplished in the last three seasons.
*TCU held San Diego State to one first down in the first half and without a first down overall in a 40:12 stretch of the game.
*TCU's school record 20-game home winning streak is the longest current Mountain West Conference mark and the third-longest active streak in the NCAA (Oklahoma 36, Boise State 30).
*TCU ran its MWC winning streak to 16 in a row. The Horned Frogs have won 24 of their last 25 games in conference play since dropping a 27-22 decision to BYU on Nov. 8, 2007. The only loss in that stretch was a 13-10 defeat at Utah on Nov. 6, 2008.
*TCU limited San Diego State to 38 yards rushing, the lowest total by a TCU opponent this season. TCU held its opponent under 100 yards rushing for the third straight game. Only two of TCU's 11 opponents this season have rushed for over 100 yards.
*The Horned Frogs had a 40:51 to 19:09 edge in time of possession and are now 51-2 in their last 53 games when leading in that category.
*TCU was even in turnover margin and improved to 53-1 when ahead (37-1) or even (16-0) in that category over the last six seasons.
*TCU scored in all four quarters today and has now tallied points in all but one quarter this season.
*The TCU defense recorded two interceptions for the third straight game and fourth time this season.
*TCU improved to 19-0 in games when Jeremy Kerley scores a touchdown.
*TCU wore a purple jersey with white pants for the first time since the 2001 season.
Individual Notes
*Andy Dalton completed 21-of-36 passes for 240 yards and threw four touchdowns for the fourth time in his career. His 38-yard first-quarter scoring toss to Jeremy Kerley extended his Mountain West Conference record to 19 consecutive games with a touchdown pass.
*Dalton recorded 237 yards of total offense and now has 11,530 in his career. He needs 40 yards to pass former BYU quarterback Max Hall (11,569; 2007-09) as the Mountain West Conference's career leader in total offense. Dalton ranks first at TCU.
*Dalton's 240 yards passing leaves him just 61 yards shy of reaching the 10,000-yard mark for his career. He has thrown for 9,939 yards.
*Three of Dalton's scoring tosses went to Kerley, who totaled a career-high eight receptions for 85 yards. It was the first three-touchdown game of Kerley's career.
*Kerley is the first TCU player with three touchdown catches in a game since Jimmy Young versus Wyoming in 2008.
*Kerley tied Mike Renfro's 1977 TCU record with 10 touchdown receptions this season.
*Kerley is the 13th player in TCU history to reach 50 receptions in a season and the first since Young totaled 59 in 2008. Kerley has 50 catches in 2010.
*Bart Johnson's first-quarter 14-yard reception extended his team-best and career-high streak to 33 consecutive games with at least one catch. Johnson had four catches for 54 yards in the game.
*Matthew Tucker (131) and Waymon James (102) became the first TCU tandem to rush for 100 yards in the same game since Lonta Hobbs (117) and Brandon Hassell (110) against Boise State in the 2003 Fort Worth Bowl.
*Tucker posted his first 100-yard game of the season and the second of his career. He ran for 134 yards at Wyoming last season.
*James' 102 yards rushing marked a career high. His previous best was 64 last week against Utah.
*Logan Brock's 15-yard first-quarter scoring reception marked his first career touchdown. It's the first touchdown by a TCU tight end since Evan Frosch's 4-yard scoring grab at UNLV on Nov. 1, 2008.
*Tejay Johnson and Greg McCoy recorded interceptions for TCU.
*Johnson's fourth quarter interception was his third of the season, matching a career high set last year.
*Colin Jones recorded his first two sacks of the season and now has three in his career. Jones tops TCU with 10 1/2 tackles for loss this season.
*Tanner Brock posted nine tackles to lead TCU in stops for the sixth time this season.
*Defensive end Ross Forrest made his first collegiate start.
