PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - TCU's top doubles team of Katariina Tuohimaa and Shalini Sahoo fell in dramatic fashion in the first round of doubles qualifying at the ITA/Riviera Women's All-American Championships at Riviera Country Club.
The 46th-ranked Horned Frog duo had two match points in the tiebreak game, but ultimately dropped a 9-8 (7) decision to Wichita State's Veronika Blaskova and Delia Damaschin. The Shocker duo is the No. 55 team in the country.
"We lost a tough one," TCU coach Dave Borelli said. "We need to improve on some things, mainly working on our lob game as a philosophy in matches. If we work on that more, we'll be in good shape as a team for the rest of the fall and heading into the spring."
With the loss, Tuohimaa and Sahoo fall to 0-1 as doubles partners in their TCU careers and drop into the consolation bracket of the ITA All-Americans Championships.
The TCU duo returns to action Wednesday morning against an opponent to be determined later in the day.
