
TCU Women's Netters Travel to ITA Texas Regionals

FORT WORTH - The TCU women's tennis team travels to Waco, Texas, this weekend for the 2010 USTA/ITA Texas Regionals at the Baylor Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs have five singles competitors and two doubles teams. The singles portion of the competition begins Friday morning, while doubles play begins Saturday.
Junior Shalini Sahoo opens play for the Frogs at 8 a.m. on Friday. She squares off with Carlene Leyden of Texas. At 8:30 a.m., sophomore Federica Denti makes her TCU debut when she faces UTA's Maria Martinez.
Also at 8:30 a.m., senior Maria Babanova is matched up against Lamar's Alessandra Penessi. At 10 a.m., senior Idunn Hertzberg faces Jessica Kahta of Texas State. Those four matches are in the Round of 128.
Senior Katariina Tuohimaa, the No. 8 seed in the singles bracket, earned a bye to the Round of 64. She is set to open play at 11:45 a.m., on Friday and will meet the winner of Texas A&M Corpus Christi's Bianca Discordia and North Texas' Barbora Vykdalova.
Tuohimaa, a Helsinki, Finland, native, holds a 0-1 singles record during the fall season.
In doubles action, Hertzberg and Babanova square off with Stephanie Davidson and Sheri Olivier of Texas A&M. The Frog duo is 0-1 during the fall season.
Denti and Tuohimaa are the sixth seed in the doubles bracket and drew a first-round bye. The TCU tandem faces the winner of the match between Texas Tech's Lorena Aviles and Sandra Dynka and Julia Wiegand and Maya Zein of Texas.
