Christy Hudson led the squad with 13 digs and picked seven kills. Kristen Hester and Jordan Raines each pitched in with six kills. Kay Lin Connolly finished the night with 11 digs.
TCU battled strong in the opening set, but the Utes were able to withstand three ties and two lead changes to claim the early match lead. Kristen Hester served the Frogs to the a 3-2 lead, but Utah used a 9-5 run to put itself in front 11-8.
The Frogs kept the deficit manageable as Hudson, Kristen Hester and Raines dropped in kills. A blast from Hudson pulled the Frogs within two, 15-13. Utah pushed the lead back to three, but a block by Kristen Hester and Hudson again pulled the Frogs back within two, 16-14. Following a kill by Raines, the Utes used a 5-2 run to take a commanding 22-17 lead. Irene Hester and Hudson tried to rally the Frogs, but a timeout by Utah stemmed the Frogs' momentum and it went on to claim the 25-20 set one victory.
Utah stormed out of the gates in the second set, opening up a 7-1 lead early. Igodan sparked a furious Frog rally as TCU pulled back within three, 7-4. She teamed with Irene Hester on a block and Kristen Hester blasted a kill during the rally.
The Utes responded with a devastating 11-3 run that opened up an 18-7 lead. Irene Hester found the back court to get the Frogs back on track as they tried to get back in the set. Kristen Hester and Irene Hester dropped in a pair of kills each, but Utah again responded with a run that gave it set point at 24-12. Trying to build momentum for the third set, the Frogs staved off four set points as Hudson knocked down two kills and Raines one to make it a 24-17 game. Karolina Bartkowiak locked up the 25-17 win for Utah.
In the third set, the Frogs fell behind early, but fought back to eventually tie the set twice. Utah took the early lead, 7-4, but the Frogs used a 7-4 run to tie the set at 11. Raines, Igodan and Irene Hester were instrumental in the run and it was a smart tip by Irene Hester to an open spot in the front court that evened the set.
It wasn't to be for the Utes put together a crushing 11-1 run and eventually went on to win the set 25-15.
TCU falls to 12-9 on the season and 3-4 in league play. The loss snaps the Frogs' 11-match conference home winning streak. The Horned Frogs return to the court Saturday afternoon as they play host to BYU. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
