
TCU Sweeps Air Force Saturday Afternoon

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball topped Air Force 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-17) Saturday afternoon to improve to 11-6 overall and 2-1 in league play. The Frogs were led by the trio of Irene Hester, Christy Hudson and Kristen Hester, who tallied 35 of the Frogs' 48 kills on the afternoon.Irene Hester smacked down a team-high 13 kills and pitched in with nine digs and four blocks. Hudson tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 assists, while adding seven digs. Kristen Hester hit .611 on the afternoon, picking up 12 kills to go along with her match-high six blocks. Kay Lin Connolly led the Frogs with 11 digs. Jordan Raines had a solid afternoon with six kills, seven digs and a career-high four aces. Meghan Horio dished out 31 assists and tallied nine digs.
The teams waged a fierce battle in the first set, fighting through eight ties and three lead changes. Air Force took control of the set early, pushing itself to an 11-9 lead. The Frogs rallied to take a 12-11 lead on a block by Yvonne Igodan and Irene Hester.
Neither team could pull away through the middle part of the set. TCU eventually took a two-point lead, 19-17, on a blast by Kristen Hester. Raines took the service line and pushed the Frogs to a 22-18 lead. Kristen Hester pitched in with two kills, while Raines tallied one of her own. A kill from Raines gave the Frogs set point and Hudson finished off the 25-21 set one victory.
TCU led from start to finish in the second set as it took the commanding 2-0 match lead. Hudson served the Frogs to a 5-0 lead that was aided by kills from Irene Hester, Kristen Hester, Horio and Raines. A block in the middle by Kristen Hester and Horio capped the early run.
The Frogs continued to roll, grabbing an eight point lead, 19-11, on a solo block in the middle by Kristen Hester. The Falcons put together a 6-4 run to make it a 23-18 contest, but back-to-back miscues by the Falcons handed the Frogs the 25-18 win.
Similar to the second set, the Frogs took control of the third set early and never looked back en route to the 25-17 win. Raines and Hudson got the train rolling for TCU and Irene Hester pitched in to help the Frogs build the 14-8 lead.
The blocking game came to life in the middle of the set as Kristen Hester teamed with both Irene Hester and Emily Kirby to push the Frog lead to nine, 19-10. TCU withstood a four-point rally and eventually righted the ship on back-to-back blasts from Irene Hester. A kill by Hudson gave the Frogs set point and a denial on the outside by Sloane Sunstrum and Kristen Hester locked up the match victory.
The Frogs (11-6, 2-1) will wrap up a three-match homestand on Friday, Oct. 8 when they host New Mexcio. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the University Rec Center.
