LOS ANGELES - TCU's women's tennis team opened the fall portion of its 2010-11 schedule Saturday in prequalifying for the Rivieria/ITA Women's All-American Championships.
The Frogs entered one player in the singles competition and one team in the doubles competition at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the campus of UCLA.
"I was glad we were able to get on the courts and play some matches," TCU coach Dave Borelli said. "We just need to get out there and play a few more matches. But, we were able to find some things to work on and we're excited to play some more next week."
In singles play, senior Katariina Tuohimaa won the first set, but faltered in dropping a three-set decision.
Georgia's Alina Jerjomina downed the No. 85-ranked Tuohimaa 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles prequalifying, the TCU tandem of Maria Babanova and Idunn Hertzberg fell 8-2 at the hands of Florida State's Noemie Scharle and Katie Rybakova.
The Frogs return to action in the All-American Championships when Tuohimaa and Shalini Sahoo on Tuesday compete in the doubles qualifying bracket.
