- TCU made its fifth straight bowl appearance, 11th in 12 seasons and 25th overall. The Horned Frogs are now 11-13-1 all-time in bowl games.
- The Horned Frogs had their four game bowl-winning streak snapped and are now 5-4 in bowl games with Gary Patterson as head coach.
- The Horned Frogs reached 12 victories (12-1) for the second time in their 114-year history. TCU's 1935 national championship team was also 12-1.
- TCU lost for just the second time in 64 games when allowing 17 points or less. The only other loss was a 13-10 defeat at Utah in 2008.
- TCU had its 14-game winning streak snapped. It had been the second longest in the nation behind only Texas (17). It also tied for the longest in school history (1937-38).
- The Horned Frogs trailed the Broncos 10-0 before a 30-yard touchdown pass from Andy Dalton to Curtis Clay with 49 seconds left in the first half. It was a similar end to last year's first half between TCU and Boise State in the 2008 Poinsettia Bowl when the Horned Frogs, trailing 13-0, cut the deficit to 13-7 on an Aaron Brown 16-yard run with 24 seconds left in the second quarter.
- When it fell behind 7-0, TCU trailed for the first time since the second quarter of the Oct. 17 Colorado State game. The Frogs trailed 6-0 at the start of the quarter before scoring 17 points to take a 17-6 halftime lead on the Rams.
- At 10-0, TCU had its largest deficit of the season and since it trailed Boise State 13-0 in last year's Poinsettia Bowl.
- TCU trailed at the half (10-7) for just the second time this season. The Horned Frogs were also down 10-7 at the break to Clemson before rallying for a 14-10 victory.
- The Horned Frogs trailed in time of possession (34:43-to-25:17) for only the second time this season.
- The Jan. 4 date for the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl marked the latest in a season that TCU has played. The Horned Frogs had three previous games on Jan. 2 (1939 Sugar Bowl, 1948 Delta Bowl, 1956 Cotton Bowl).
- TCU played its fifth consecutive bowl game in a stadium that's also hosted a Super Bowl. The Horned Frogs played in the 2005 Houston Bowl and 2007 Texas Bowl at Reliant Stadium as well as the 2006 and 2008 Poinsettia Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
Individual Notes
- Andy Dalton passed for 272 yards to become TCU's career leader with 7,457, breaking Max Knake's previous mark of 7,370 yards (1992-95).
- Dalton's second-quarter touchdown pass gave him 23 for the 2009 campaign, one short of tying Knake for TCU's single-season mark (24, 1994).
- Dalton went over 1,000 career pass attempts (1,001) and 600 completions (603).
- Jeremy Kerley's 76 punt return yards gave him a TCU single-season record 563 yards for the season, surpassing Davey O'Brien (549, 1937) and Brian Bonner (535, 2007) who now rank second and third, respectively.
- Kerley had a career-high and team-best six receptions for 65 yards.
- Jimmy Young's four receptions moved him into eighth place on TCU's all-time list with 115 catches, passing Andre Davis (114, 1992-95).
- Daryl Washington led the Frogs with 10 tackles, marking his fifth career double-digit total and third straight game with 10 or more stops. Washington also led TCU with a career-high 3 ½ tackles for loss.
- For the second straight game, Alex Ibiloye tied a career high with nine tackles. It's the third time he's reached that mark this season.
- Making the second start of his career, cornerback Greg McCoy totaled a career-high seven tackles (all solo).
- Ryan Christian's five receptions for 40 yards tie a season-high set against Utah. It's one short of a career-high six catches he had in last year's Poinsettia Bowl versus Boise State and a 2007 contest at Air Force.
- Jerry Hughes had his second forced fumble of the season. He's the lone Horned Frog with more than one force. Hughes also made the recovery, giving TCU 11 recoveries on the season by 10 different players. Wayne Daniels is the lone Horned Frog with two fumble recoveries.
- Hughes totaled 1 ½ tackles for loss among four stops in the game. He added a pass breakup to go with his forced fumble and fumble recovery.
- Anson Kelton's first-half 62- and 65-yard punts are the second and third-longest of his career, surpassed only by a 72-yard kick earlier this season at Air Force.
- Kelton's 48.4 average and eight punts were both single-game career highs.
- Bart Johnson had a first-quarter reception to extend his team-best streak to 22 consecutive games with at least one catch.
- With injuries to senior cornerbacks Rafael Priest and Nick Sanders, redshirt freshman walk-on Brian Alexis made his collegiate debut. Alexis is from Fort Worth Country Day School.
