
Aztecs Rally to Post 67-62 Victory over Frogs

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The TCU men's basketball team dropped a 67-62 decision on the road to San Diego State on Saturday evening at Viejas Arena in San Diego, Calif.
The Frogs came out strong in the first half of action and jumped out to a 7-0 lead following a lay-in by Edvinas Ruzgas (Vilnius, Lithuania | Weatherford College) at the 17:08 mark.
The Frogs showcased their hot shooting stroke after building a 10-point advantage at 18-8 with 12:39 remaining in the first half following a three-pointer by freshman Garlon Green (Missouri City, Texas | Hightower H.S.).
Three-pointers by Keion Mitchem (Rochester, N.Y. | Rochester East H.S.) and Zvonko Buljan (Split, Croatia | Vincennes University) each gave the Frogs a 14-point advantage in the first half of action.
At one point in the first half, the Frogs connected on 15-of-18 field goal attempts and carried a 38-29 lead into the locker room at intermission. During the first half of action, the Frogs connected on 69.6 percent (16-of-23) of their field goal attempts.
The Aztecs came back strong in the second half of action and were able to cut the lead to two points at 49-47 with 13:00 remaining in the game following back-to-back three-pointers by guard Kelvin Davis.
A lay-in by Davis at the 8:54 mark gave the Aztecs their first lead of the game at 51-49. With the game tied at 56-56 with 3:28 remaining in the game, the Aztecs went on a 5-0 run to take the score to 61-56 following a Kawhi Leonard dunk and Billy White lay-in and free throw.
The Frogs got to within one point at 63-62 following a three-pointer by Mitchem, but White and Davis connected on 6-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the 67-62 victory for San Diego State.
Ruzgas finished with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-6 from behind the three-point line, to go along with four rebounds in 38 minutes of action. Buljan notched 13 points to go along with eight rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots in 38 minutes of action.
Mitchem notched 12 points, including 4-of-4 from behind the three-point line, in 29 minutes of action. Ronnie Moss (Fort Worth, Texas | Christian Life Academy) dished out 10 assists to go along with six points and six rebounds in 39 minutes of action.
White finished with a team-high 16 points, including eight points down the stretch, while Malcolm Thomas added 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
With the victory, the Aztecs improved to 13-5 overall and 2-2 in Mountain West Conference action while the Frogs fell to 9-9 and 2-2 in league play.
The Frogs will return to action on Wednesday when they welcome UT Pan American to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. Central Time.
