FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State Rams took a 3-0 (26-18, 25-19, 25-20) victory over TCU Saturday afternoon, snapping the Horned Frogs eight-match winning streak. Christy Hudson paced the Frog attack with 13 kills in the match.Along with Hudson's 13 kills, Kourtney Edwards also reached double figures with 11. Megan Munce finished with her eighth double-double of the season with 28 assists and a match-high 13 digs.
The Rams came out firing on all cylinders and put the Frogs in an early 13-5 hole. The Frogs tried to climb back in the set with a 5-0 run to make it a 13-10 contest. Three straight kills by Hudson spurred the rally. A Kristen Hester ace led to a Ram timeout and Hudson teamed with Edwards to cap the run. Colorado State went on a 6-0 run following the Frogs rally and quelled the Frogs momentum as they took a commanding 19-10 lead.
Trailing 23-12, the Frogs tried to gain some momentum for the second set as they put together another big run to pull back within six, 23-17. Highlighting the run were back-to-back blocks by Kristen Hester and Irene Hester. Two straight kills by Katelyn Steffan looked like it had ended the set, but a snafu at the scorer's table kept the set alive. A service error gave the Rams a 26-18 first set victory.
A much more spirited affair in the second set saw the Frogs battle, but again, it was Colorado State coming out on top 25-19 to take the commanding 2-0 match lead.
With the Rams lead 9-7 in the set, the Frogs went on a 5-0 run to regain the lead. Hudson was on fire with two blocks and a kill, giving the Frogs a 12-9 lead. The Rams had an answer in the form of a 7-1 run that turned the Frog lead into a 16-13 Ram lead.
Again, the Frogs would rally back as Edwards came up with two kills in a 4-0 run to regain the 17-16 lead. But just like before, Colorado State responded with a 9-2 run to close out the set.
A 3-0 start to the third set by the Rams spelled doom for the Frogs as they couldn't overcome the early deficit. They were able to keep the set close on kills from Edwards and Hudson, but a 4-0 run by the Rams put them back on top, 13-8. The Rams held on for the 25-20 set three win.
TCU falls to 13-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Frogs will open up the home portion of their conference schedule Thursday night when they host Air Force. First serve at the University Rec Center is set for 7 p.m.
