
Frogs Soar To 3-0 Victory Over Falcons

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs improved to 3-1 in league play with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-18) victory over Air Force Thursday night at the University Rec Center. Kourtney Edwards led all hitters with 15 kills and hit an outstanding .789 in the match, a mark that ranks third all-time in school history.As a team, the Frogs were firing on all cylinders, hitting at a .384 clip with 42 kills. Along with her 33 assists, Megan Munce racked up five of the Frogs' seven service aces. Kristen Hester took part in all four of the Frogs' blocks. Irene Hester tallied nine digs and Christy Hudson finished with eight. Defensively, Katelyn Blackwood led all players with eight digs.
The Falcons battled the Frogs tough in the first set, but TCU was able to eke out the 25-23 victory. The set saw six ties and three lead changes. With Blackwood behind the service line, the Frogs reeled off seven straight points to take a 13-6 lead. Kristen Hester teamed with Irene Hester and Munce for three of the points.
TCU's lead continued to grow, reaching seven, 19-12, before the Falcons found a rhythm and climbed back into the set. They went on an 11-5 run to pull within one, 24-23, but a blast from the back row by Irene Hester sealed the TCU victory.
Five kills by Edwards and four service aces by Munce guided the Frogs to a dominating second set performance and a 25-10 win. Leading 10-4, Munce set behind the line and served up three aces in a four-point run by the Frogs, giving them a 14-4 lead. Hudson pitched in with a couple of kills as the lead continued to grow and Munce's fourth ace of the set gave the Frogs the victory.
The Frogs finished off the Falcons in the third set with another dominating effort. Edwards was a perfect 6-for-6 in the set as she helped the Frogs build a commanding 9-1 advantage. Four of her kills came in that early run by TCU.
Air Force closed the gap to five, 14-9, but wouldn't get any closer as Kristen Hester blasted a cross-court kill to staunch the Falcon rally. The Falcons handed the Frogs their final three points of the match with three service errors as TCU won 25-18.
The Frogs improve to 14-4 overall and 3-1 in league play. They will host San Diego State on Saturday. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the University Rec Center. Admission is free to all fans.
