FORT WORTH, Texas - Jordan Calhoun netted three goals and assisted on another Friday night to lead TCU to a 5-2 victory over Stephen F. Austin at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. With the hat trick, Calhoun has now posted 23 goals for her career, which moves her into No. 3 all-time in career goals. The Frogs have now posted a hat trick in four of head coach Dan Abdalla's five seasons in Fort Worth.
"I thought our backline did a good job of keeping us in the game. We had that one little slip up at the end, but overall I thought the girls responded well following halftime," said Abdalla. "Jordan had a really good game up top for us and it was great for her confidence. She had some great finishes tonight, which you can't ask for much better finishes from her. Every time she touches the ball, we know we are going to have a very good chance to score."
Senior Lizzy Karoly netted the game's opening goal in the 22nd minute off an assist from Calhoun. The goal marked Karoly's fourth goal of the season.
Following a goal by SFA's Kylie Louw in the 29th minute, it appeared as if Katie Taylor, a defender from California, gave the Frogs a 2-1 halftime lead, but her free kick sailed high to keep the scored tied at 1-1 going into the break.
In the 49th minute, Calhoun scored from 20 yards out, booming a shot past Ladyjacks' goalkeeper Rachael Stelly. The sophomore put TCU ahead for good, rocketing the ball from the left side of the field past Stelly.
Calhoun, a Norman, Okla., native, found the back of the net again in the 64th minute off a cross from Karoly. On the play, Calhoun scored from the left side of the box, deflecting the ball off the right post into the upper right of the goal.
In the 67th minute, sophomore Katie Runyon made a run into the middle of the box, but couldn't connect as her shot was blocked by an SFA defender to keep the score at 3-1.
Fellow sophomore Kaylie Garcia tried to increase Frog lead in the 78th minute, but her shot sailed wide of the net.
Following a goal by Taylor off a free kick in the 80th minute, Calhoun completed her first career hat trick, netting her eighth goal of the season off a Michelle Nguyen deflection inside the box late in the half.
"We have been kind of struggling this year with our scoring, so for us to come out tonight and score five goals was great," said Calhoun. "I am happy that I was able to score the hat trick and help the team win."
SFA's Jayne Jahnke added a late goal off a deflection in the 89th minute, just beating freshman Kira Michelson-Bartlett to make the final score 5-2 in favor of the Purple and White.
With the win, TCU moved to 6-4-0 on the year, while Stephen F. Austin fell to 3-6-0 on the season. The Frogs played in front of 1,525 spectators on Friday night.
Michelson-Bartlett had a solid night, saving a career-best eight shots against SFA, while Courtney Bauder and Stelly combined for two saves.
Calhoun led the offensive attack with four shots-on-goal, three goals and one assist, while Taylor and Karoly combined for two of the five goals at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
The Horned Frogs will next be in action on Sunday against Texas Woman's University. Start time for the match is set for 1 p.m. at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
