TCU head coach Gary Patterson
Opening Statement
"As it is in college football, we are glad to get a win this week. We have some growing pains, but honestly, I'm happy we won. Not everybody is that happy today. We got Clemson next week, and we have to get ready to play. We are now 51-6 at home, and you've got to protect your house. We have to play well at home, and we are happy for today's win."
On Texas State
"Texas State has a pretty good offensive group. They had two weeks to prepare for us, and they exposed us on a couple of things. You've got to give them credit. They did some things coverage-wise, and they beat a couple of guys. They have a really good quarterback, and their receivers were better than what we saw in Virginia. You don't evaluate a team by the name of their school, you look at their talent."
On what the Frogs' need to improve on before Clemson
"We've got to be smarter about things. The key is to learn when you win. Offensively, we did what we needed to do. We won't be able to push around Clemson. You just have to have a little luck every once in a while. We can't make mistakes in the kicking game and can't turn the ball over."
TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes
On the defensive effort
"We started off really slow, and we weren't really playing to our capabilities. We had some mental breakdowns that really hurt us today. TCU has a proud tradition on defense to holding opponents to a certain amount of points. Every week, we game plan and prepare to shut out opponents. Having some mistakes tonight and watching Texas State capitalize on them really hurts us, but at the same time, it gives a chance to learn from it."
TCU tailback Joseph Turner
On the team's performance
"Texas State is a good team, and I guess we thought we could come out calm and slow, but they came out and gave us a good game. We came out flat, but Coach Patterson did a great job in the second half of getting us going and that's when we really started playing well."
TCU quarterback Andy Dalton
On the team's performance
"They are things that we did that we could have done better. Coach Patterson will go in and see the film tonight and see those things and try to get us corrected. You have to improve each week and even though we won, there were times in the game where we could have played a lot better. In college football, anything can happen. You see that every week. You have to get up and prepare each week to win the game."
Texas State head coach Brad Wright
Opening Statement
"I told our players that the sun is going to come up tomorrow. They played a very good football team here, and there is a reason why they are ranked where they are. We got a lot to learn from this game, and we will look at the film and correct the mistakes that need to be made. That's one good thing about playing a very good football team; it will show you where your weaknesses are. We obviously have some weaknesses and need to get better, and we will get better."
On his team's offensive production against TCU's defense
"We had a lot of missed chances out there today. That's the sad part about it because we had some offensive opportunities to get more points on the board, and we didn't get it done. They have a very good defense, and they showed us where our weaknesses are on offense today."
