FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU's 2009 football schedule is finalized and the season will begin Sept. 12 at Virginia with the home opener set for Sept. 19 versus Texas State.
The Horned Frogs have won 11 games four times in the last six seasons. In each case, TCU began the campaign with a road game.
"We've been fortunate to have some successful seasons when we've opened on the road against quality opponents," TCU head coach Gary Patterson said. "During preseason camp, our players have had a great focus when they knew they were preparing for a tough challenge away from home. It gets their attention quickly.
"We'll need that same concentration this fall with a very good Virginia team in Charlottesville being our first game."
The home opener with Texas State is confirmed for Sept. 19 before the Frogs head back to ACC country for a Sept. 26 contest at Clemson.
TCU will not have any open dates on this year's 12-game regular-season slate.
"If you're playing well, there can be advantages in maintaining the continuity and rhythm in your schedule," Patterson said.
In two of the last four years, TCU has put together an 11-win season by playing 11 straight weeks.
In 2005, TCU posted a 10-1 regular season without the benefit of an open date. The Frogs closed that year with a win over Iowa State in the Houston Bowl.
Last season, TCU was the first team in the nation to play 11 games. The Frogs finished with an 11-2 record and a No. 7 ranking in final polls by the Associated Press and USA Today.
